Support - Dial-Up Configuration (Windows XP)

Follow these instructions to configure the Windows XP operating system to connect to the Internet with your Extreme Internet Dial-Up connection:


  1. Press the Start button and select "Control Panel"

  2. Make sure you are displaying the window in the Classic View, which shows all of the icons that lead to assorted configuration tools and settings.
    (If you are not displaying the Classic View, click on the "Switch to Classic View" option in the upper left-hand blue side bar.)

  3. From the Control Panel, choose "Network Connections".

  4. Select "Create a new connection" from the upper left-hand blue side bar to launch the New Connection Wizard.

  5. On the Welcome screen, press Next.

  6. On the Network Connection Types panel, select "Connect to the Internet" and press Next.

  7. On the Getting Ready panel, select "Set up my connection manually" and press Next.

  8. On the Internet Connection panel, select "Connect using a dial-up modem" and press Next.

  9. On the Connection Name panel, enter Extremezone in the ISP Name field and press Next.

  10. On the Phone Number to Dial panel, enter 368-4621 for the 480 area code and press Next.

    Note: If you have call waiting, enter *70,368-4621 for the 480 area code.

  11. On the Internet Account Information panel, enter the following:

    User name:  enter your Extreme Internet User Name with a capital "P" in front of it.  (If you user name is "tsmith", you must enter it as "Ptsmith".

    Password:  enter your Extreme Internet password in all lower case

    Confirm password:  re-enter your Extreme Internet password 

    Press Next.

  12. On the Completing New Connection Wizard panel, select "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop" and press Finish to close the New Connection Wizard.

  13. Next, press the Start button and select "Connect to" then "Show all Connections".

  14. Right-click on the Extremezone dial-up connection and select "Properties".

  15. On the Extremezone Properties panel, select the "General" tab and uncheck the option "Use Dialing Rules".

  16. On the Extremezone Properties panel, select the "Networking" tab and highlight the connection "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)".  The press Properties.

  17. On the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties panel, select the option "Use the following DNS server addresses" and enter the following:

    Preferred DNS server:  64.140.128.10
    Alternate DNS server:  64.140.128.11

    Press OK to close the (TCP/IP) Properties panel.

  18. Press OK again to close the Extremezone properties panel.

You have successfully completed the New Connection Wizard and now have a Dial-up connection to Extreme Internet.  You may activate the Extremezone dial-up connection via the shortcut icon on your desktop, or via the Start menu:

  1. Press the Start button and select "Connect to" and "Extremezone"

  2. On the Connect Extremezone panel, enter the following:

    User name:  enter your Extreme Internet User Name with a capital "P" at the beginning.  (Example:  Pjohnsmith)

    Password:  enter your Extreme Internet password

  3. Press Dial to finish.

Your modem will dial, connect to Extremezone, and verify your User name and password.  After that is completed, you are connected to the internet.
