Support - DSL Configuration (Windows XP)

Follow these instructions to configure the Windows XP operating system to connect to the Internet with your Extreme Internet DSL connection:

1.  Press the Start button and select "Control Panel" Windows XP Start Menu

2. Make sure you are displaying the window in the Classic View, which shows all of the icons that lead to assorted configuration tools and settings.
(If you are not displaying the Classic View, click on the "Switch to Classic View" option in the upper left hand blue menu bar.)

3.  From the Control Panel, choose "Network Connections".

4. On the Network Connections control panel, choose "Local Area Connection" under the LAN or High-Speed Internet category.

5.  On the Local Area Connection Status panel, press Properties.

6.  On the Local Area Connection Properties panel, select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then press Properties.

7.  On the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties panel:
  • Select "Obtain an IP address automatically"

  • Select "Use the following DNS server addresses"

  • In the "Preferred DNS server" field, type:  64.140.128.10

  • In the "Alternate DNS server" field, type:  64.140.128.11

  • Press OK

  1. If prompted, restart your computer.

  2. If not prompted, press OK to close the Local Area Connection Properties panel.

  3. On the Local Area Connection Status panel, press Close.

  4. You can now exit out of the Control Panel window.

  5. Press the Start button and select "Internet Explorer" to open your web browser.  You should be connected to the Internet and able to visit and view the web sites of your choice.
